Pastor: Ryan Ahlgrim


Ryan Ahlgrim became the pastor of First Mennonite Church on August 1, 2014.

He attended Goshen College and received a BA in English in 1979. After college he returned to his home church to become its first youth pastor.

Following a year of youth ministry, Ryan attended AMBS (now Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary), and one semester at Princeton Theological Seminary, receiving a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in pastoral counseling. During seminary, he worked part-time as an assistant minister at Dunlap United Methodist Church (Elkhart, Ind).

Ryan became the founding pastor of Peoria-North Mennonite Church (Illinois) and led the congregation for eleven years. He received a Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary through the Chicago Association of Theological Schools D.Min. in Preaching Program.

In 1995 Ryan became the lead pastor of First Mennonite Church in Indianapolis where he served for nineteen years. During his last few years there, he also taught communication courses at Ivy Tech Community College. A frequent contributor to church periodicals, he authored the book Not as the Scribes: Jesus as a Model for Prophetic Preaching (Herald Press, 2002).

In 1989 Ryan married Laurie (Silver) Ahlgrim. They have two children in college: Garrett (at Goshen College), and Savannah (at University of Alabama-Birmingham).
