Recently a proposal to redesign the organizational structure of the church was sent out to everyone in the congregation. The Church Council would like to get the congregation’s feedback to this proposal before proceeding with rewriting the congregation’s constitution and bylaws. Two times have been set aside for open discussion: after church on September 15th at 12:30 (bring a sack lunch if you wish); and during the 9:30am Sunday school hour on September 29th. Fall Retreat

Each year, around the end of September, members of FMC attend an overnight retreat. The retreat serves to bring our congregation closer together and, more importantly, closer to God. The retreat also serves as a chance to help FMC grow by shedding light on ways that we can improve through the use of group sessions and discussions.

This year’s retreat will be held: September 20-22, 2019

This year’s theme is: A Faith That Falters and Flourishes: Three Challenges Mennonites Have Faced

Presentation by Laura Duncan

Laura Duncan, former member of Richmond Mennonite Fellowship, recently traveled with her husband on a 10-day trip to Egypt with Outreach Foundation ( association with the Presbyterian Church USA). They visited many churches and got a sense of what it is to be a Christian in a Muslim country. Following the supper on September 4th, at 7pm, Laura will share a PowerPoint presentation that will also incorporate some early history about Christianity in Egypt. Stay for this stimulating presentation!

National Night Out

National Night Out

Hello all,

National Night Out is coming up on Tuesday, August 6 from 6 to 8 PM. Come join us at First Mennonite Church that evening for your favorite summer picnic foods, grilled hot dogs (prepared by Grillmaster: Jim Lehman), baked beans, chips, veggies, and watermelon. We'll have games, cornhole, ladder golf, and a Bounce house.

If you are planning to attend or had some spare time this week, we'd appreciate cookie donations to share everyone. You can drop them off at church on Sunday (they will be hidden in a protective vault until Tuesday) or if you're planning on attending just bring them when you come. If you are planning to attend and can spare 15 minutes during the event, we could use you to volunteer to "oversee" the bounce house. Just contact Paul Joireman if you are willing to help out in this way.

Bring a couple lawn chairs with you when you come so you can lounge wherever while you enjoy food and fellowship with neighbors in the area and other church members. Hope to see you there.
